Arnout Devos

👋 Hi, I’m Arnout, Lecturer in AI for Research at ETH AI Center (ETH Zurich). Next to teaching, I develop large-scale AI systems that do research autonomously, including an ⚛️ AI Scientist, recasting invention itself as a problem we can engineer. Previously, I led Science at ELLIS; obtained my PhD in ML from EPFL as a Marie-Curie fellow, including internships at Spotify, Amazon, and Stanford University; co-founded an AI EdTech startup; and built up the student Pre-Seed VC fund S2S Ventures, whose first 4 investments I led — so far yielding 1 exit (Digit Soil), a $40M Series A (Adaptyv Bio), and a €4M Seed round (MAIA). Earlier: MSc CS from USC 🇺🇸 as a BAEF fellow, and degrees in Management, EE, and EECS from KU Leuven 🇧🇪.

Alongside this, I enjoy learning and building with peers, which led me to co-found (1) the ETH AI Club, ETH Zurich’s students & staff volunteer association on AI with 250+ members, and (2) the global Sciencepreneurship Community of entrepreneurial scientists, whose alumni include the founders of Prior Labs (€1B+ exit to SAP) & UNOMR.
